Dr Syntax versus the Paperweights is a new solo show by Glasgow-based artist Mick Peter. Using sculptural objects the presentation will transform the space into an environment of confounding and intriguing surfaces. The interface between abstract public sculpture and architectural decoration is what he pits against a clearer narrative and representational impulse, a combination that generates material and formal tensions.
As is common in much of his work Peter has based this exhibition on literary source material, in this case a freewheeling exploration of William Coombe’s mischievous Dr Syntax (amongst other things). This exhibition will evolve and adapt both the illustrative and written content of this work as starting points for new sculptures.
