Consultation Draft

Disability Equality Scheme 2010 - 12:  Consultation Draft

Stirling Council is preparing its second Disability Equality Scheme. This confirms the actions it will take to continue to promote disability equality and prevent and tackle disability discrimination in the Stirling Council area. The scheme considers the Councils responsibilities for delivering services and as an employer.  It highlights the importance the Council attaches to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity for people with a disability.

The preparation of a separate Disability Equality Scheme for Education is also required as part of our Disability Equality duties and this is currently under development.

Preparation of the Draft Disability Equality Scheme (DES) has taken account of the following: -

  • progress achieved in delivering the Council’s current Disability Equality Scheme
  • activity the Council must continue with to meet its legal obligations
  • areas for potential improvement including comment received from services users where available

The Draft scheme confirms the Council’s underlying objectives in terms of disability equality, the outcomes it seeks to achieve and the associated actions it proposes and list these in a Draft Action Plan.

We welcome your comments on the Disability Scheme Draft Action Plan which is presented in summary and detailed form below
