Zooming the map to a place of interest
You have several options for setting the map to your place of interest. The following briefly describes these options. Any of these options can be used in any order or combination at any time.
Option 1: Use your mouse to manually position the map
The following mouse controls are available for you to manually fine tune the position of the map. You can use any of these in any order or combination:
- Move the map around using the mouse. Position the mouse pointer on the map, hold down the left mouse button, then drag the map in any direction to a new position.
- Move the map around using the map's pan controls. Click on the pan arrows
at the top left hand corner of the map to move North, South, East and West respectively.
- Zoom in with double click. With the mouse positioned any where over the map, double click the left mouse button and the map will zoom in by one zoom level, and centre itself at the location of the mouse clicks.
- Zoom in/out with your scroll wheel. If you have a mouse scroll wheel, then with the mouse pointer positioned over the map, roll the wheel away from you to zoom in, and back towards you to zoom out.
- Zoom to an area by drawing a zoom box. Position the mouse pointer on the map, hold down the left mouse button and the shift key at the same time, then drag your mouse across the map. You will see a rectangle being drawn. When the rectangle covers the area you want to zoom to, release the mouse button, and the map will zoom to that area.
- Zoom in/out using the scale bar zoom buttons. Click on the
and
buttons at the top and bottom of the scale bar at the left of the map to zoom in and out respectively.
- Zoom in/out using the scale bar. Click anywhere on the scale bar to zoom the map in or out to that scale.
- Zoom in/out use the scale slider. Click on the scale slider
on the scale bar, hold down the left mouse button, slide to anywhere on the scale bar then release the mouse button and the map will zoom in or out to that scale.
Option 2: Select a Place
- Select a place from the "Select a place" drop down.
- The map will position itself to an area which covers the place you selected.
- Now use the manual map controls to fine tune the position of the map.
Option 2: Find an Address

- Enter known details of an address that you want to zoom to. Enter a full Postcode, or complete the details in a minimum of two of the other fields.
- Click the "find" button, and any addresses which matches the details you have entered will be returned on screen
- Click on an address and the map will position itself at that address.
- Now use the manual map controls to fine tune the position of the map
- If no addresses are returned, it is because you entered insufficient information to carry out a search, or no matches were found. The on screen text will advise which. Press close and try again with additional or corrected address information
