history of golf in Stirling
Join in a week of celebrations 24 March - 1 April 2006

One winter day in 1506 King James IV rode out from his palace in Stirling Castle to play a regal round of golf with the Earl of Bothwell in the vast King’s Park hunting grounds below.
As the two squared up against the same glorious backdrop you can enjoy from Stirling Golf Club today – past the Castle to the carse with the Trossachs beyond – they found a special place in the history books.Because this was only the second-ever recorded game of golf played in Scotland.
This spring,  as another golfing season gets underway, Stirling is hosting a series of special events to mark half a millennium of the game on our doorstep.  We extend a warm invitation to players of all ages and levels to take part and discover the terrific golf our area can offer.  And if golf isn’t your game there’s no shortage of other attractions and activities to enjoy.

I hope you’ll join us in celebrating 500 golfing years in Stirling.
