Briefings lasted about 30 minutes and had three phases to them:
The briefing sessions covered all levels of the workforce and all the Council’s Services.
The’ grapevine’ meant that many employees had heard of “Our Code” before their formal briefing. In these instances, they came prepared and would wave the red card at colleagues during the briefing, in jest, in demonstration that they already understood the concept. Far from devaluing the impact of “Our Code” this demonstrated that it was becoming part of a common language for the Council as an organisation.
Posters listing the rights and responsibilities and promoting use of “Our Code” are displayed on Council notice boards, both for employees' and the public's benefit.
“Our Code” was submitted for national award schemes and achieved success in the following:
Coverage in local, national and professional media followed, heightening the awareness of the initiative internally and creating an enormous sense of pride among those individuals who had been involved in creating and developing “Our Code”.
With “Our Code” well established, it is introduced to new employees and Members through the Council’s induction process.
