Communications

The first stage in cascading “Our Code” across the organisation (of around 4,000 employees) was a presentation by 3 working group members to a formal Council meeting.  All three political parties publicly endorsed “Our Code”.

To push the message out, the Code of Conduct’s imminent arrival was flagged up in the Council’s employee newsletter and in core-briefing messages distributed through team briefings.  This created a buzz about it - and a growing demand before it was even distributed

We chose to deliver “Our Code” to employees face to face. The benefits of explaining its creation and use in this way far outweighed the time it took.

The then Employee Development Manager and the former Head of Communications delivered the briefings.  Group sizes ranged from nearly 100 to single employees.  Without exception all groups accepted the need for “Our Code” and bought into the concept of rights and responsibilities as a way of working with each other. After 5 months, three-quarters of the workforce had a copy of “Our Code”.
