Within Community Services we share a core vision, of improving the quality of life for individual citizens and local communities.
Quality of life may be: good arrangements for support at home for a frail older person; a youth group having the opportunity to take part in a music project; well maintained parks and open spaces; basic literacy skills for someone looking for work; sport and recreation opportunities for adults with mental health problems; internet access in the library; community service offenders undertaking local environmental projects; a grant for a local group.
How Services are delivered
Our services do not operate in isolation - we must work with others to provide effective services and to maximize the use of resources. Our services are therefore provided in three ways:
- Services that we provide directly to, or commission on behalf of, the public
- Working in partnership with other agencies in the voluntary, public and private sectors
- Influencing the work of other agencies and services to become more responsive to the needs of communities
