Job Title: Building Standards Surveyor

Role: To ensure the safety of the public in and around buildings by assessing building warrants and drawings to ensure they meet the current building standards

Key Areas of Expertise:
James has expert knowledge of the current Building Standards technical requirements. New standards came into effect on 1st May 2007.

Current Work Load:
James covers the 'West area' of Stirling, extending from Dobbies Garden Centre to Loch Lomond and from Loch Katrine to Ward Toll. He deals with a wide range of building warrants - from small extensions to large hotel complexes.

James has just spent his weekend dealing with two dangerous building incidents and is still working on these cases to ensure that they are made safe and that no-one can be hurt. As well as this urgent work, he is carrying out site inspections for all of the current building warrants in his area, dealing with applications from start to finish and inspecting the works as and when required. Last year James processed approximately 104 new applications for building warrants.

James and his colleagues ensure that a Duty Officer is available from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, to ensure help is on hand for members of the public on all aspects of Building Standards.
