Stirling companies capitalise on environmental legislations
Stirling based Superglass and Cascade Technologies are making the most of opportunities presented by new environmental legislation.Cascade Technologies, who recently raised £1 million in third-round funding to capitalise on trialing of new technology, have extended a licensing agreement with BP Marine for a further five years in a deal estimated to be in the region of £25 million. Cascade Technologies provide a monitoring system measuring shipping-industry pollution, which BP Marine use to comply with European environmental legislation. Don Gregory, BP Marine's director of sustainability and fuel technology, said: "The Cascade technology design and application provides a real possibility of global adoption of online emissions monitoring on all globally trading ships."
Insulation manufacturer Superglass is capitalising on the government's carbon emission reduction target (Cert) programme introduced in April 2008. The programme requires energy firms to improve efficiency in customers' properties, such as by improvements to loft and cavity-wall insulation.
Following slower than anticipated take-up of Cert at the start of the year, shares in Superglass jumped in April in line with introduction of the Cert programme.
