Taxi Vehicles

A licence is required for vehicles who ply for hire in the street i.e. the driver can accept passengers for reward at taxi stances, in the street and can be flagged down by a member of the public when the taxi sign is lit.

Taxi operators can also accept pre arranged bookings. taxi vehicles in Stirling have to be white in colour with the exception of purposed built or custom made taxi vehicles e.g. Fairways, Metros etc.

All taxis will carry a roof sign with the exception of purpose built vehicles. The roof sign will carry the Stirling Council logo and identify the taxi plate number at both sides of the Roof Bar e.g. T350. Council Plates are found on the rear bumper of the car begin with T and have the expiry date below. (e.g T900 and underneath Oct 02)

A licence is required for a vehicle which accepts bookings by prior arrangement for a journey or hire i.e. a pre-arranged booking.

Private Hire Vehicles

Private Hire Vehicles or Private Cabs cannot ply for hire in the street. Private Hire Cars in Stirling cannot be white in colour and are not allowed to have roof signs although they may carry the approved door signs.

Council Plates are found on the rear bumper of the car begin with P and have the expiry date below. (eg P900 underneath Jun 02 which expires Jun 2002)
