
As well as having higher than average qualifications than Scotland as a whole, Stirling residents also tend to hold higher skilled occupations, with greater proportions of residents employed in managerial and senior official posts and professional occupations. A similar proportion of Stirling residents (13.0 per cent) are employed in associate professional and technical occupations to the Scottish average (13.8 per cent).
Stirling is a net importer of labour, with more individuals travelling into Stirling to work, than residents travelling out of Stirling to work. While around two thirds of Stirling’s labour force also live in the Stirling Council area, around 11 per cent come from Clackmannanshire, nine per cent from Falkirk and 13 per cent from a variety of other local authority areas including North Lanarkshire and Perth and Kinross.
Local businesses have reported that Stirling is an ideal location for recruiting high skilled workers due to its excellent public transport links and motorway networks. Some companies have successfully attracted high skilled international job candidates, such as Stirling Medical Innovations who have attracted staff from America and Germany.
