Who Needs Commercial Waste Services?
All businesses have a statutory duty to dispose of their waste via a licensed waste carrier. This is defined as a Duty of Care within section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. This and other regulatory requirements are detailed in Legal Duties.
Stirling Council provides waste collection services to commercial premises throughout Stirlingshire for all types of businesses and organisations. We provide wheeled bins and sacks for for producers of "mixed" waste types who are unable to separate waste materials. View for information about charges
Recycling
Stirling Council does not provide a commercial recycling service for any material at this time. We can refer potential customers to other recycling service providers, if required. Additional detailed advice and information on reduction, recycling & composting commercial wastes can be found in the Business Recycling Directory at Waste Aware Business, a national campaign run by Waste Aware Scotland. Do any of my commercial rates payments cover the collection and disposal costs of my waste?
No. Currently, commercial rates payable to the local authority do not include payment for trade waste collection and disposal.

How do I dispose of hazardous waste?
The Council cannot, under any circumstances, accept special or hazardous waste with Commercial or Domestic refuse collections. Any item deemed hazardous such as asbestos, car batteries etc must be dealt with within EC Directives .
Is the council the only provider of trade waste services?
Historically, all commercial businesses received a waste collection service from a local authority and were charged for this as part of their commercial rates. However, businesses must now make their own arrangements for waste collection, i.e. You may utilise a Council or private contractor authorised to carry waste.
Will the Council accept animal bones or animal by-products in commercial waste?
The Council cannot, under any circumstances, accept or dispose of any commercial animal by-products or bones.
Do I have to provide stub-out bins for people smoking outside my premises?
You are not legally obliged to provide stub-out bins, but Environmental Health would encourage their use because they will prevent litter, and reinforce the message that your premises are no smoking. Please note that in some instances, you will need planning permission if you wish to provide a stub-out bin.
The glass bins at my business premises have not been emptied. What should I do?
