Consumer Advice

Stirling Council's Trading Standards service offers a Consumer Advice service to provide information on consumer related civil law.  Our officers can advise you about your legal rights and suggest how best to resolve your complaint.  This service is provided for residents and businesses in the Stirling Council area, or to non-residents if the complaint involves a supplier within the Stirling Council area.

For advice sheets on a range of subjects, use the index on the left under Consumer Advice.  These are provided by the Trading Standards Institute.

Please Note, we can -

  • give impartial advice on consumer law and your rights;
  • suggest appropriate courses of action and how to pursue your rights;
  • advise on court procedure;
  • investigate cases, if the criminal laws we enforce have been contravened.

But, we cannot -

  • obtain a refund for you, or take court action for you;
  • recommend particular businesses or tell you which businesses to avoid;
  • investigate complaints about food hygiene or food standards.  This is dealt with by Environmental Health.  Contact them on 08452 777 000.
