Product Recall News

Manufacturers, importers and suppliers are required to ensure that products are safe for use in the circumstances for which they are intended.

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 creates a strict liability for damage caused by defective products.  Damage is defined as death, personal injury or any loss of or damage to any property including land.  The Act is in addition to any actions for negligence.

Recalls or safety warnings are part of the precautions which are taken by importers or producers in order to meet their responsibilities under product safety legislation.  For more guidance on traders' responsibilities click Safety of Consumer Goods.
