The Changing Room presented In The Dark, an exhibition by final year students from the BA Design Site Specific course at Forth Valley College.

Lisa Barlow, Alison Douglas, Ian Kaye, Shirley Ann MacMillan & Jim Murphy collaborated on making new work for the exhibition that explored their responses to the theme ‘in the dark’.

All five artists explored the theme by making work that related to the gallery, its history and context. The artists used a variety of media including video projections, textiles and painting to create their work.

Alison Douglas explored the history of the Crawford Arcade, the Victorian building in Stirling city centre in which The Changing Room is situated. The gallery retains many of its period features and other clues to how the space was used in the past.   Douglas’ work ‘invited the viewer to imagine what was there in the past’ while exploring the function of the building as it exists today.

Ian Kaye  investigated ‘how our senses and emotions react to their surroundings when deliberately subjected to an environment which promotes a feeling of unease, intimidation and claustrophobia’.
