'To browse suggests a certain complicity between the viewer/buyer and the object/display. All of the work in this show was chosen because it engages or subverts this idea, by working with the general themes of shopping, consumerism, the display, the commodity, advertising. Moving around, the browser will be called upon to look at, look through, and even take part in the work shown. The work asks for a response.

The action of looking can be laborious but will be rewarded. The mundane layby sign is raised to the transcendental in Michael Wilkinson and Marcus Mitchell's Laybys of the A9. The artists have stopped off at every layby nos 1-202 along this route. It could be said that each photograph with the blue sign blue sign and its confined surroundings could look uniform by Layby 50, but as the browser looks through, disparate narrative appear. Why are 44 and 45 missing off the posts? Who would get angry enough in a layby to throw mud at 104?'
