(re)visionLAND
Alejandra Salinas and Aeron Bergman
23 November - 22 December 2001
(re)visionLAND was the first UK solo show by Alejandra Salinas and Aeron Bergman, musicians and artists who live and work in Logrono, Spain.
Since 1997, Alejandra & Aeron have operated the record label Lucky Kitchen, subtly combining a fine art aesthetic of ideas through beautifully measured home made packaging with a refreshingly off-the-cuff approach to realism in their sound work. Describing their work as "electronic folk music", Alejandra & Aeron bring an evocative human touch to the normally cold formalist worlds of experimental music and sound based art.
With (re)visionLAND, their aim was to "set up a puzzling situation of dialogue about landscape". The work - including a full size replication of an English Garden scene with four channel audio work in mushroom speakers playing Scotch Monsters, a video rework of landscape scenes from Mel Gibson’s Braveheart film and a traditional Spanish Belen Christmas window scene - suggested subjects such as colonialism, foot and mouth disease, and the shaping of the land, while also talking about myth, and utopian images slipping (and surviving) into the cracks.
An audio re-working of the soundtrack for this show, Scotch Monsters is released by soft music on CD and available from The Changing Room for £10 + P&P.
(re)visionLAND was curated by Stirling based artists collective Diskono, long time collaborators with Alejandra & Aeron and funded by the Scottish Arts Council through the 'International Projects in Scotland' scheme.
Alejandra & Aeron won the award of distinction for digital music at Prix Ars Electronica, Austria 2002 for this project.
