Maintenance
Will a core path be maintained?
The Council and landmanagers are under no legal duty to maintain any core paths. However the Council can maintain them, keep them free from obstruction and sign them.
All the core paths proposed by the Council and suggested by the public have been surveyed. This has established what work is needed to make them usable by walkers as a minimum standard and what ongoing maintenance may be required. If resources are restricted, then it is likely that core paths will be favoured over other paths regarding maintenance and improvements.
As a minimum the Council will keep core paths open and free from obstruction and will ensure boundary crossings and signposts are present and in good condition.
More information on how we maintain paths can be found in the review document.
