WIll core paths bring benefits to the area?
Will core paths bring benefits to the area?
Creating the Core Paths Plan will help to implement aspects of the Council’s Countryside Access and Recreation Strategy (e.g. Policy 4 – Community Paths Scheme) and help to support both the local and regional transport strategies. The Plan has the potential to improve people’s confidence about accessing the countryside, help reduce car usage and improve people’s health by providing an identified networks of paths. The core paths may also contribute to the local economy by encouraging visitors to stay in the area longer.
However, the development of Core Paths alone will not achieve these benefits. The results of the Paths and Countryside Access Questionnaire showed that the key reason for people not using their paths more is that they are too busy. Thus to achieve any of the benefits mentioned will require a change in people’s attitude which is outwith the ability of this plan.
