Strategic Environmental Assessment

Strategic Environmental Assessment, SEA for short is a systematic process for identifying, predicting, reporting and mitigating the environmental impacts of certain public sector plans and programmes.

What is covered is defined in the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005.

Basically the ‘Responsible Authority’, in this case Stirling Council, must make an assessment of the likely impacts of a plan and then pass on their findings to the Consultation Authorities, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Natural Heritage and Historic Scotland, via the Scottish Government.
