Responsibility
The key to this Act is that a person has these rights as long as they are exercised responsibly. Land managers have a reciprocal duty to manage, use and conduct the ownership of land in a way that is responsible. Guidance on what is and is not responsible behaviour is explained in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, produced by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH). This is currently available on the SNH website and the Countryside Access website and hard copies can be viewed at all Council libraries.
The Act came into force in February 2005.
