Maintenance Team

Countryside Maintenance

In addition to the Ranger Service the Countryside Service employs a team of Maintenance workers.  This small team, of highly-adaptable, multi-skilled individuals, undertakes the maintenance of all the countryside sites; this can include vegetation maintenance, arboricultural work (urban and rural), forestry and woodland management and path and bridge maintenance and construction.

In addition to this the team also works on the many paths the Council manages – again clearing vegetation, cutting back trees, constructing new surfaced paths and maintaining existing ones and installing boundary crossings such as gates and bridges.

As some sites are quite isolated and have restricted access, the team has at hand various plant/machinery to undertake and maintain the sites in a professional and safe manner - all tasks are covered by the relevant Health & Safety regulations.

The team is trained to national standards in all tasks/work they undertake.  This not only ensures they are fully competent but that they complete the job to the highest standard allowing us to keep most of the work in house and under our direct control, using outside contractors only as a last resort.

2005 Projects the team worked on included:

  • ·The construction and installation of the Wharry Burn Bridge, Bridge of Allan.
  • The construction and installation of a boardwalk, by Stevensons Cave, Darn Walk, Bridge of Allan.
  • Implementation of the Woodland management plan by clearing areas of Rhododendron in Plean Country Park.
  • Clear felling 2.54ha of trees in Plean Country Park, the timber will be converted to firewood and for fencing and decking to be used by the Countryside Service on other projects.
  • Tree work for Streetscape in a number of towns throughout the Stirling Council area including Callandar, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane.
  • Providing expert advice on the maintenance requirements on the West Highland Way.
  • Annual vegetation clearance and strimming of a number of routes throughout the Stirling Council area.
  • Clearance of trees and vegetation in Raploch for StreetscapeRepairing gates on the West Highland Way at Killearn.
