Waterfall

Distance: 2 miles/3.5km

Bumble beeThis is an extension of the 'Under the Craigs' walk and an excellent way of obtaining an outstanding view for very little effort, coupled with a look at a hidden waterfall - Downie’s Loup - that cannot be fully seen from lower down.

The routing is the same as the Under the Craigs walk, when instead of turning right (west), on clearing the tree line you turn left and follow a track making directly for the terraced hills rising in front of you.

The Gargunnock burn tumbles from the escarpment in a series of falls through the cleft just to the right of your view, and the headwall of thequarry is obvious to the left.In summer months or in dry weather the falls are unimpressive, but after heavy rain they can be a dramatic sight.

The track terminates at the remains of the old quarry workings - from here make for the crest of the grassy skyline approximately 70m to your right. Facing north from this point a magnificent panorama unfolds, with the village spread out below and the Perthshire hills dominating the skyline. The most obvious mountains from west to east are Ben Lomond, Ben Venue, Ben Ledi, Stuc a Chroin and Ben Vorlich. A few steps further take you to the edge of a steep drop - care required! - where the burn falls seventy feet to the chasm floor.

From here you can return to the point where you left the ‘Under the Craigs'  walk, or retrace your steps to Gargunnock.
