Access Services

Access Services caters for those who are Housebound and those living in Old People’s Homes.

House bound servicesIf, due to age, location or disability, you are unable to get to your local library, these services are available for you. If you are unable to access the library temporarily, due to illness or following a stay in hospital, we can also help until you are back on your feet!

Deliveries to the Housebound are made throughout the Stirling Council area. As well as books, music cassettes, bookson tape, quarterly book lists and a quarterly magazine, "Chatterbox", are delivered. Reading aids such as book rests and magnifying sheets are provided, subject to availability.

In addition to these aids, we also have a number of cassette players and video closed caption readers for those who need them. The former are for use with books on tape and are useful for users who find large print books too heavy. The latter allows hard of hearing users to view subtitles on videos. We also operate a home loan scheme for users of the service where they can borrow a computer and learn IT skills.

After an initial visit by the Community Access Librarian, the books, etc will be delivered once a fortnight, either by one of our volunteers or by library staff.

There are a number of events organised for users of the service throughout the year.

We also provide a service to Old People’s Homes and residents of sheltered housing complexes who may make special requests.
