Unless specified, all answers relate to the Reference section in Central Library, Stirling

Q - Do you have the 1901 Census?

A - Yes, we have the 1901 Census for Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire available on microfilm.

Q - Do you have early editions of Stirling newspapers?

A - Yes, we have the Stirling Journal from 1820-1970 on microfilm with an accompanying printed index.  We also hold the Stirling Observer from 1836 to 2004.  Other early newspapers held are the Stirling Sentinel, Bridge of Allan Gazette and the Callander Advertiser. A microfilm version of the Stirling Observer Christmas Annual, produced annually from 1911 to 1969 is also available, fully indexed.

Q - Are Which? reports available?

A - Yes.  Current and back issues of Which, Which Gardening, Which Car and Holiday Which are available.

Q - Are telephone directories available?

A - Yes, directories, Yellow Pages and postal address books are available for the whole of Scotland, though information for this and the rest of the UK is also available online.

Q - Can I find out about my family tartan?

A - The reference library holds a family history section including books on clans and tartans.

Q - Do you hold the local planning schedules?

A - Yes we do, both current and back issues.

Q - Do you have Ordnance Survey maps?

A - Yes, we hold current OS maps for the whole of the UK and a small collection of early OS maps for the Stirling area.

Q - I need to send an email.  Can I do that at the library, and can you help me?

A - Internet and email facilities are now available free of charge in all libraries.  Library staff are always happy to provide assistance in the use of the computers where time permits.

Q - Do you have a local history section?

A - Yes, we have a large local history collection where you can find information on the history of Stirling and Stirlingshire.  The library also has local history publications and photographs for sale.

Q - Do you have the prospectus for Stirling University?

A - Yes, we have undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses for universities and colleges throughout the UK.
