We have more than 100 public play areas, ranging from small, local back court areas, to major neighbourhood parks, and including two skateparks and several multi use games areas.
Our play areas are part of a spectrum of provision for children, young people and families, and are important social spaces. We believe that they can provide vital opportunities for children to exercise their imaginations, experience challenge and risk, to play alone, and with others. Over the last few years, we've adopted a play landscape approach to any new play areas and any existing ones that have undergone major refurbishments. This means that the design of each site draws on the local natural and social characteristics of the area, regards context and setting as an integral aspect of the play area, and incorporates many non-prescriptive play materials and features, including planting. The play space principles underlie this approach.
A dedicated Playgrounds Team looks after the whole play area site, including inspection, maintenance, grass cutting (including not cutting) and planting.
Play Services includes both the Playgrounds Team and the Play Programmes and Creches Team and they work closely together to involve children and communities in aspects of construction and planting and to organise lots of events and activities in play areas.
Play area list includes all public play areas, skate parks, and school grounds with play equipment in the Stirling council area.
