The Development Advice Note, Play and Recreation Areas in association with New Housing Developments supplements the council's Development Plan policies. It ensures that play space is considered from the outline planning application stage and provides details guidance on the standard of play and informal recreation areas to be provided in conjunction with new housing developments. It incorporates the play space principles of the play landscape approach keeping control of the design with Play Services, and encourages housing developers to make financial contributions to the council so that Play Services can improve existing sites or create new ones. In such cases, Play Services often works with communities using developers' contributions to lever additional funding.
See play area case studies to see how this works in practice.
The Development Advice Note is available on Stirling Council.
Stirling's Development Advice Note has been used as a model by many other Scottish local authorities.
