Causewayhead Park, Stirling

Paddling PoolCausewayhead Park in Alloa Road, Stirling, has always been a popular park.  Resources of around £70,000.00 became available through the Bett Homes housing developments in Causewayhead to improve the park, and in Summer 2005 a team of parents and children aged 2-11, the 'Roving Reporters' observed and evaluated the park.

Their findings and recommendations were built into the improvement designs, key features of which are the extension of the former sand Wallace Monument Viewplay area, and the addition to it of a water pump and rills and the addition of decking, including decked 'islands' in the paddling pool.  The old flying fox and sand play structure have both been replaced and all the remaining equipment has been refurbished and repainted.  The sheep are undergoing a similar process and are due to return soon.  We have submitted an application to  Scottish Natural Heritage which if successful will mean that we can add more planting to the scheme.

Causewayhead Community Council has been extremely supportive, and has contributed two new picnic tables to the park.

Judi Legg, Play Space Designer, and Mike Hyatt, Landscape Architect were responsible for the design of the play area, and construction company Landcare Solutions built it.

Sand PitThe opening event took place on Thursday 10 August, with both the local councillor and the local minister in attendance.  More than 500 people came, bringing picnics and staying all day for a Play in the Park event run by the Play Services team.  As well, Kevin Blackwell, sculptor and artist ran wood work sessions using brushwood with children.  Environmentalist June Waley helped children to find and enjoy the natural life of the area and also liberated the butterflies and snails that had spent the summer on the Greenfingers Superbus.
