In 1998, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award national New Start programme was developed to assist in the quest for the global involvement of young people in the Award.New Start has successfully demonstrated how the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme can compliment and enhance the work of organisations and services concerned with reducing and preventing youth crime and promoting community safety.

SERCO - one of The Award's Charter Members, is offering "disadvantaged" young people, or groups, financial support to help them with their Award programme.
Bursaries of up to £100 are available to support young people that are enrolled on the programme, but maybe having difficulties in participation because of the cost of equipment/cost of course etc.
