Checks

Police Checks

You must disclose any previous convictions and allow a criminal record check. Any offences involving children or serious violence will automatically preclude assessment as adoptive parents. Other offences will be considered with you as to their age and seriousness.

You will be asked if a child has ever been removed from your care or if you have been refused registration as a childminder.

We will require to verify your employment record and financial status. If you have children from a previous relationship, the nature of the relationship with the child and former partner will also be explored.

Medical Checks

You will be asked to undergo a medical conducted by your GP and assessed by the Adoption Panel's Medical Adviser. We do not wish to discriminate on the grounds of ill-health or disability, and sympathetic consideration will be given to any identified health concerns. Nevertheless, the need of the children to have parents who will be able to look after them to adulthood will be a basic requirement.
