Family Support and Childminding Service

The Family Support and Community Childminding Service offer a service to vulnerable families with very young children experiencing family crisis. Families may encounter a range of crises including among other:

  • Drug/alcohol misuse
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Physical/mental health issues
  • Homelessness

We aim to prioritise support to the most vulnerable children and their families. Family Support Officers offer practical and emotional support in parenting skills, developing self-esteem etc. This is offered within a multi-agency framework in partnership with voluntary and statutory colleagues in Health, Social Work and Education Sectors. The aim is to identify concerns about the children's welfare, health and learning at the earliest stage in their development to provide them with better opportunities in life.

Community Childcarers are an integral part of the provision. Community Childcarers are registered childminders offering a very specialised support services including childcare for vulnerable families with young children, usually under three years of age. Community Childcarers work closely with Family Support and Community Childcare staff to ensure a flexible and effective delivery of service.
