Information for young people

This service is aimed at helping young people from Stirling to secure long-term employment by accessing apprenticeships. The service is here to help young people who are ambitious and who are prepared to work hard in order to enhance their life chances and choices.

There is a demand for skilled people across all of the industry sectors today, and where there is demand there is opportunity. Young people who invest their time and effort today in learning industry skills will reap the benefits in years to come. By contacting the programme co-ordinator and registering your interest the process of matching your requirements with those of potential employers can begin. This one small step could prove to be the biggest and best move of your adult life.

Apprenticeships normally require 3 to 4 years of training. During this period some of the time may be spent in college where the theory side of your chosen occupation will be taught. The rest of the time will be spent gaining practical experience in a ‘hands on’ role working with your employer. Training costs will be met by your employer with help from Scottish Enterprise. As the trainee you will not be required to make any contribution towards these fees and you will be paid a wage by the employer which will normally increase each year.

After being placed with an employer young people can continue to receive mentoring support from Stirling Council Youth Learning. Support will be available for the duration of the placement via a website and an info-text service that will be monitored daily. This will allow for early intervention to quickly address any issues that might arise during training.
