Stirling Compass Partnership

Stirling Compass for Life Partnership

The Stirling Compass for Life Partnership stives to provide a support service for vulnerable young people in the Stirling area who need extra help to make a successful transition from school. . Operational since 2001, Compass partners have supported over 1000 young people to develop their personal and work related skills, and participate positively in the economic, cultural and social life of the area.

The Stirling Compass for Life Partnership comprises a wide range of organisations from the statutory, voluntary, public and private sectors, who work together to provide the highest levels of co-ordinated services and support to enable young people to fulfil their potential.  They do this by:

  • Consulting with young people about services
  • Breaking down barriers between services
  • Sharing existing resources and skills
  • Making flexible use of mainstream resources
  • Working together to attract external resources.

By building cohesion amongst existing services and bringing additionality with innovative new services and ways of working, the Compass for Life Partnership has developed a model of community planning in practice in its approach to activity.  The partnership has developed a shared culture across all organisations that work with young people in Stirling in a way that provides a model for community planning in practice.

The HMIE Inspection of Stirling Council’s Community Learning & Development in 2005 selected the Compass initiative as an example of Best Practice in their Inspection Report.

The partnership was formed in 2000 and provides dedicated support services for young people aged 14-25 years who face barriers.  Partners provide opportunities to help young people deal with their barriers and access employment.

Locally based Services have been developed, allowing young people to directly access support in their own community.  Youth Services support Compass Centres provide individual and group support to develop employability skills, personal and social skills and build confidence. Young people can also learn specific skills to access a range of occupational areas including the care and construction industries. Partners also provide Specialist support services including Health, Housing, Careers, Learning Support, Substance Misuse, Criminal Justice, and Care Leavers Support..
