Stirling Council Archives collects, sorts, preserves, and catalogues historically significant local records, and makes them available to the public. We hold a large collection of records reflecting the history of both local government and the wider community in the Stirling area. Records are consulted in the public search room, and staff will advise enquirers on which records to request and, where practicable, assist with their interpretation. Along with Libraries, Registrar and Cemeteries, Archives provide a rich resource for family and house history. There are no charges for either consulting records or seeking advice. If the condition of the document permits, photocopies can normally be provided at 40p each. Initial enquiries, whether by email, letter, telephone or fax, will normally be replied to within five working days of receipt. Archives staff may undertake research on behalf of private individuals or businesses by prior agreement at a rate of £17 per hour. Although it is not necessary to make an appointment, we would advise any readers coming from a distance to contact us in advance because the number of seats in the search room is limited and we are one of the busiest local authority archives in Scotland. Opening Hours Monday - Wednesday: 9.30 - 12.30 and 1.30 - 4.30 Thursday - Friday: closed to the public. 5 Borrowmeadow Road, Stirling FK7 7UW Tel: 01786 450745 archive@stirling.gov.uk
