Q  My Giro has not arrived.  What should I do?

Q  Can you help me with a problem with my pension?
A  Enquiries about pensions are dealt with by contacting the Department of Work and Pensions - The Pensions Service, Tel 01786 432600.

Q  Where can I get a wheelchair/zimmer/commode/bed frame?
A  These are provided by the NHS, so we would suggest you contact your GP's surgery in the first instance and discuss this with your GP, nurse or health visitor.

Q  Where can I get help with equipment and adaptations for bathing, toileting and mobility (eg going up and down stairs, handrails and ramps)?
A  People with disabilities can access a range of special equipment such as walking frames, bathing aids and stair lifts to help them cope with their disabilities.  Your local Community Care Services, based in Drummond House, can give advice and assistance.

If your child has a physical or sensory impairment which may require specialist equipment or adaptions to your home, please also contact Children's Social Work Services. Tel 0845 277 7000.

Q  How can I get a social worker?

Q  I can't manage to get to the council office.  Can a social worker visit me at home?
A  Yes, this can be arranged.  Again, you should contact 0845 277 7000.

Q  My meals on wheels/home help has not arrived.  What should I do?
A  Give us a call on 0845 277 7000.  It would help us to establish how late your meal is when you call.  If it is under half an hour late, it may simply be that the vehicle delivering the meals has been held up.  Unfortunately, this can happen from time to time.  If your meal still hasn't arrived half an hour after it was due, then please call us back and we'll contact Home Support Services.  If your meal is already more than half an hour late when you call us, we'll contact Home Support Services straight away.

Q  My home carer is late/ hasn't arrived when they were meant to.  What should I do?
A  Give us a call on 0845 277 7000.  It would help us to establish how late your home carer is when you call.  If they are under half an hour late, it may simply be that they've been held up.  Unfortunately, this can happen from time to time.  If your home carer still hasn't arrived half an hour after they were due, please call us back and we'll contact Home Support Services.  If your home carer is already more than half an hour late when you call, we'll contact Home Support Services right away.

Q  Can the Council pick up a wheelchair and other equipment which is no longer needed?
A  Yes, please contact our Community Care Services via the contact centre on 0845 277 7000.

Q  Can you mend my broken stairlift?
A  Yes.  These are covered by a maintenance and repair contract.  Please contact Community Care Services via the contact centre on 0845 277 7000.

Q  How do I contact the Social Security (Benefits Agency)?
A  In April 2002 the Benefits Agency was replaced by two new organisations.  The Pensions Service can be contacted whether you are already a pensioner or are planning for your retirement.  Tel 01786 432600.

Enquiries about other benefits or allowances can be answered by Jobcentre Plus.  Tel 01786 424200.

Q  I want to adopt/foster a child.  What do I do?
A  We can give advice and support for people who want to place a child for adoption, have been adopted, want to adopt or need post adoption support.  We recruit and support foster carers and adoptive parents and arrange matches between them and children in need of care.

Foster carers are recruited and supported by Children's Services - Social Work to care for children and young people who are unable to live with their own families.  For more information and a briefing pack phone the contact centre on 0845 277 7000.

Q  We are moving into the Stirling Council area and looking for residential care for my mother/father.  Can you advise us?
