Mining Bees
General Information
- are solitary bees – female forms multiple individual nests in sandy soil e.g. lawns
- appears as a small volcano-like mound with the soil excavated from the nest
- may use same area year after year
- mainly feed on pollen
- are unable to sting humans
Significance
- can be a minor nuisance on lawns until mid summer
- are beneficial to nature by pollinating flowers
