As part of the Local Housing Strategy review, all local authorities have to develop a Fuel Poverty Strategy for the period 2004 - 2009 and submit it to the Scottish Government in July 2005. The Strategy sets out how Stirling Council, in partnership with other agencies, intends to address the issue of fuel poverty in the area. A successful start has been made on tackling fuel poverty in the social rented sector and this will continue as the focus switches to the private sector.
The Strategy highlights the work done to date to reduce fuel poverty and the action plan shows the areas that Stirling Council will concentrate on up to 2009. This includes providing increased access to information on fuel poverty, developing the Warm as Toast initiative on fuel debt management, maximising access to external grants for private owners, developing a partnership for affordable warmth and establishing a Fuel Poverty Working Group

The Scottish Government are working with the Energy Savings Trust to raise awareness of the Energy Assistance Package amongst those who may be suffering from fuelpoverty or poor energy efficiency.
The Energy Assistance Package is designed to make our fuel costs lower and our homes warmer.
There are four stages to the Package. Each stage offers different levels of support depending on the individuals’ needs and circumstances.
