Local Housing Strategy

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001, places a legal duty on every local authority to produce a Local Housing Strategy (LHS). The first LHS for Stirling covered the period 2004 to 2009 and is available as one of the LHS supporting documents (see below).

Work is presently underway to develop the Stirling Local Housing Strategy which will cover the period 2010 – 2015 The main forum for partnership working on the development of the strategy will be the Strategic Housing Forum. A core document for the Local Housing Strategy and the Local Development Plan is the Housing Need and Demand Assessment (HNDA) A final draft of the HNDA was submitted to the Centre for Housing Market Analysis (part of Scottish Government) in August 2010. Other documents relating to the development of the Strategy will be posted as they become available.

Consultation on the LHS

During April, May and June 2010, the Council undertook a consultation exercise with partner agencies, voluntary organisations, community groups and individuals. The focus of the consultation was the LHS Housing Issues Report which provides facts and figures and raises awareness of housing issues in the Stirling Council area.
Although the consultation has now formally closed, the Council continues to seek the views of organisations and individuals on the issues raised and questions posed on the Issues Report.

The Next Step

Over the next few months the Council will be continuing to speak to a range of representative bodies and will be working the development of a Draft Local Housing Strategy. The Draft LHS is due to be published later this year and will be subject to a period of Consultation.
