Extended hours nursery charging policy 2008/2009

As a result of a major review in 2007, the Nursery Charging Policy is changing from August 2008. A detailed information sheet is available from the Head of your child's nursery.

We remain committed to the implementation of a charging policy that is fair and provides access to affordable early childhood services.

Key changes

  • From the start of term in August, charges will apply for the number of hours allocated to each child whether the parent chooses to use them in full or not.
  • Please think carefully about how many hours of extended provision you need and discuss this with the Head of the nursery.
  • In nurseries which are open all year round, there will be an allowance of 4 weeks per year to be considered as “holiday” weeks when charges will not apply. These weeks may be taken at any time during the year that you choose.
  • If your child is absent due to long-term illness (lasting over 2 weeks), no charge will be applied and the place will be held open for their return.
  • No charges will be applied when the nursery service is unavailable as a result of fixed closure weeks, public holidays, staff development days or unexpected emergency closure.
  • You may be exempt from nursery charges if you are on a low income (qualifying criteria apply) or if your child has been referred in relation to Child Protection, or if your child (under 3’s only) has been referred by the Educational Psychology Service.
  • A 50 % concessionary rate on some or all of the extended hours your child accesses may be available if you are a student or trainee (and are the main earner in the family) or if you work less than 16 hours per week and are not eligible to receive Working Tax Credits.
