Key Areas

There are three key areas of parental involvement in education - all are important.

Learning at home

Parents as first and ongoing educators of their own children. An example might be parents and their child reading together at bedtime.

Home/School/Nursery Partnership

Schools, nurseries, parents and the community working together to educate children. An example might be a secondary school holding an information evening for parents and primary 7 pupils to show them round the school and talk about the new subjects they will be learning.

Parent representation

Parents having an opportunity to be involved in the development of education policy at school, local authority and national level. An example might be a Parent Council asking parents their views on the school’s anti-bullying policy.
