History

The first school in Fintry was at Gonachan (now a private house, at the turn-off to Denny), in use during the 18th century.

Probably because of overcrowding at Gonachan, a new school was endowed by Mr John Stewart, a Fintry merchant, chiefly for use by the children of the cotton mill employees.

"Stewarts" school opened in 1839. This building (in the heart of the "New Town" developed in the mid 18th century) is now a private house.

The present school was opened on 22 September, 1961 by the Rt. Hon. Thomas Johnstone, a former resident of Fintry. Situated at the foot of Dunmore, it serves Fintry and the surrounding rural district.
