Use of Data
The data provided on this site is intended for information purposes only. It is not suitable for development control purposes or for assembling information for Environmental Impact Assessments or Agri-environment schemes without further archaeological advice from Stirling Council's Archaeology Officer. Professional advice and the most current information should be sought directly from the Archaeology Officer before planning or undertaking work for development and land management purposes, or any work which might damage any archaeological site.
Legal Requirements
A number of the buildings and archaeological sites whose details are included in the Sites & Monuments Record may be protected under Listed Building or Scheduled Ancient Monument legislation. Alterations to a Listed Building will require consent from the relevant local authority and any work affecting a Scheduled Ancient Monument requires consent from Historic Scotland. It is also an offence to use a metal detector on a Scheduled Ancient Monument without prior approval from Historic Scotland. Further information on these can be found on Pastmap.
Access
The fact that a building or archaeological monument is recorded in the Sites & Monument Record does not convey or imply any right of public access. Members of the public, including students and professionals, are advised to seek permission from the owner and/or occupier in the normal way.
