Highlanders
As the 'Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders' the Regiment have been in the van of the British Army throughout the globe, serving with distinction in the two World Wars, and playing a vital peacekeeping role in Suez, Cyprus, Aden and North Ireland.
Inevitably, their history is both glorious and tragic - for example, the 7th Battalion, serving in France in 1940, were almost all killed or captured. They were reformed and subsequently fought in North Africa (where their Lt. Lorne Campbell won the Victoria Cross) and Sicily, before returning to take part in the D Day Landings and the invasion of Sicily. more...
