When Mel Gibson immortalised one of Scotland’s most famous heroes, William Wallace, on the silver screen, few could have imagined the dramatic impact it would have on Stirling as a tourist destination.
Since the making of Braveheart, which had its glittering European premiere at The MacRobert arts centre and followed by a star-studded party at Stirling Castle, Stirling became the international destination for many.
The town now attracts over a million visitors every year, with close on half that number visiting it's magnificent castle, which has majestically stood guard over the town through centuries of warfare and royal drama. In this new age of devolution, the town is rigidly proud of Stirling Castle's central role in forging Scottish history
