Striling's children first to visit the Millenium Dome Learning Dome

Stirling has a quite deliberate policy of putting its children first. They are our future and deserve opportunities and experiences which will allow them to mature as both active learners and active citizens

It is the natural conclusion to an approach which is based upon our respecting children's rights and encouraging children and young people to take responsibility for their learning, environment and each other. Encouraging children to express their views can safeguard them from vulnerable situations

Stirling believes that dissolving the professional barriers and allowing the active participation by its children is the best way to secure citizens for the new millennium who will challenge, care and create conditions which will allow the quality of life to be sustained for future citizens.

Stirling puts Children first in as much as what it does. It is apt that its young people lead the country taking centre stage when Stirling became the first town in the UK "to tell its story" in the Learning Zone of Londons Millennium Dome on 5 January 2000.

Stirling Our Story preserves forever on CD-Rom a digital capsule encompassing the last thousand years of history in and around Stirling and looking ahead to what the future might hold.

Working with BBC resources, Stirling Council  captured a dynamic picture of Stirling at work and play using a blend of video, text and sound gathered from across the comunity. These have been combined with state of the art graphics to slice time, made for the people of Stirling by the people of Stirling - a legacy to educate and entertain citizens and visitors alike.
