Fast Facts about Scotland’s first National Park
- The Park is free to visit
- It covers 720 sq miles
- More than 14 000 people live within the Park’s 350 km long boundary
- All centres, car parks and picnic areas operated by the National Park Authority are free
- Jewel in the crown is the £60m Gateway Centre, Loch Loomed Shores shopping complex, conference venue, cinema and adventure playground at the south end of the loch near Balloch
- From the Centre there’s access to a wooded promontory with a network of paths and boardwalks leading to the Lochshore and stunning panoramic views
- It’s estimated that Loch Lomond Shores will plough more than £35m back into the local economy and generate more than 900 jobs.
- It’s the second biggest National Park in Britain
- The Park boasts 21 Munros, 20 Corbetts, 2 forest parks, and 57 sites of special nature conservation value
- A 25-member board oversees the Park including 5 directly elected community representatives. Chair is Cllr Gillie Thomson
