Ailie's Garden

Ailie’s Garden (named after local activist Ailie R Maclaurin, 1913-2000) is a half acre site within the two acre museum grounds which the Friends are developing as a 24 hour gallery.  It is designed as a  family friendly facility where younger children can let off steam whilst their grandparents play chess.  It has-

  • Willow garden
  • Butterfly border (being developed in Spring contains the following elements:  
  • 2003Woodland area, with habitat boosters
  • Upland area, with an example of Scottish drystane dyking
  • Kitchen demonstration garden
  • Orchard area
  • Wetland area
  • Compost demonstration area
  • Storytelling area
  • Herb garden with chess/draughts board
  • Picnic areas
  • Play areas (giant xylophone, pipes, labyrinth and willow tunnel)
