Ailie’s Garden (named after local activist Ailie R Maclaurin, 1913-2000) is a half acre site within the two acre museum grounds which the Friends are developing as a 24 hour gallery. It is designed as a family friendly facility where younger children can let off steam whilst their grandparents play chess. It has-
- Willow garden
- Butterfly border (being developed in Spring contains the following elements:
- 2003Woodland area, with habitat boosters
- Upland area, with an example of Scottish drystane dyking
- Kitchen demonstration garden
- Orchard area
- Wetland area
- Compost demonstration area
- Storytelling area
- Herb garden with chess/draughts board
- Picnic areas
- Play areas (giant xylophone, pipes, labyrinth and willow tunnel)
