Stirling Council unable to set its Budget

Stirling Council was unable to set its Revenue Budget and Council Tax for 2012/13.

The SNP Administration’s Motion was presented by Councillor Scott Farmer and seconded by Councillor Graham Houston.  The Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative Parties submitted Amendments.  In the course of the debate the SNP Administration indicated their acceptance of the Labour and Liberal Democrat Amendments.  The Conservative Amendment was defeated and the Labour Group felt unable to support the Amended Motion, which therefore fell.

Chairing the evening meeting Provost Fergus Wood announced that no further progress could be made and urged all parties to have discussions and move towards a further meeting at the earliest opportunity.  He reminded Councillors that a budget must be set by the statutory deadline of Sunday 11 March 2012.
