Council praised in Shelter Scotland report
Housing charity Shelter Scotland has highlighted Stirling Council’s impressive reduction in eviction rates in a recent report.
The report shows that there were only two evictions during 2010-11, a drop of 33% on the previous year. This means that Stirling has now seen a 93% drop in evictions over the past four years. Over the same time period the Scottish average is a reduction of just 46%.
Graeme Brown,
Director of Shelter Scotland, said;
“It’s great news that evictions in Stirling are down by 33% and that over the last four years they have been cut by 93%. We have been campaigning to make eviction the last resort for social landlords, and these figures show Stirling Council
is responding to our concerns. We congratulate the Council for the major progress it has made in reducing evictions.”
Stirling Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Alasdair MacPherson, commented;
"We very much welcome Shelter Scotland's report, which highlights
the tremendous progress that has been made in the Stirling Council area recently to minimise evictions. Stirling has achieved a reduction rate that's twice the Scottish average, and we're committed to keep working closely with tenants to ensure eviction is avoided wherever possible."
