New curling season at Stirling ice rink

Thursday, 18th September, 2008

The sport that saw Rhona Martin’s Great Britain team bring home Olympic gold has started with a great upsurge of interest at Stirling Ice Rink.

More than 40 new curlers took to the ice as part of a ‘Come and Try’ Open Day to start the new 2008/09 season.  Eleven children also attended throughout the day, six of which enticed by the curling clubs at Active Stirling’s Olympic Festival recently held at the Kings Park.

Active Stirling Curling Development Officer Logan Gray who was delighted with the turnout said: “In the past this occasion hasn’t been well attended, however this successful day shows the sport is turning a corner and curling is gearing up to have a huge impact at The Peak.”

This is the existing Stirling Ice Rink’s last season of operation due to the imminent opening of The Peak at the Sports Village. The new Sports Village there will be a new six-sheet ice rink opening in April 2009.

Stirling Ice Rink would like to thank all those who attended as well as all the volunteer coaches who made the new curlers’ first experience of curling both fun and safe.

If interested in getting involved in curling please contact Logan Gray on 01786 432345 for further information.
